Replica of a so-called Viking ring fibula - also known as Omega-Brooch, penannular brooch or horseshoe brooch. It's certain that the shape of the ends was based on Viking weights, which were identically shaped and decorated. Presumably, this design in the form of weights should originally be an expression for the identification of the owner with his profession as a dealer or member of a dealer guild. However, fibulas with cubooktaed ends were very common and about 40% of all found ring fibulae between 800 and 1000 AD belong to this type. Thus, the polyhedron fibula was probably more of a well-known and freely usable design than it was reserved for a closed dealer.
